Water Resource Enforcement Officers

WREO Joe Stattelman (NW) spent the week working fishing activity and AIS enforcement.
Several wetland and waters complaints were fielded and investigated.
Time was spent around Upper Red Lake enforcing AIS laws and compliance during the fishing opener.

WREO Luke Belgard (SW) worked angling, boating, and AIS activity this week. The officer reports a busy fishing opener with high numbers of boaters and anglers taking to the water during the nice weather. Angler success was spotty on local lakes with northern pike and crappies being the most common species seen in live wells.

WREO Dustie Speldrich (North Metro) worked the fishing opener with CO Hand. Several violations were detected including failing to display watercraft registration, no throwable lifesaving device, and no angling license in possession. Time was also spent enforcing AIS laws. Local state forests were open and ATV laws were enforced.

WREO Jeff Humphrey (NE) continued updating regional wetland and waters cases. He worked the fishing opener checking anglers and boaters at area access sites for AIS compliance. Humphrey prepped for an upcoming jury trial on a contested wetland restoration order.
