District 9 - Brainerd area

CO Chelsey Best (Pequot Lakes) took enforcement action this week for fishing and boating violations. ATV and OHM violations were also addressed.

CO Jim Guida (Brainerd #2) worked a busy angling opener this week. Crappies are biting. Some walleyes were harvested. License checks revealed good compliance. With warmer than normal weather, Officer Guida monitored PWC use and hours of operation. Boaters were reminded to have their navigation lights on at sunset.

CO Tony Flerlage (Crosby) had a good fishing opener, seeing a lot of people out catching plenty of fish. Trout and crappie were seen the most. Received calls of nuisance bears and garbage burning complaints. ATV use was high during the week with decent trails to ride.

CO Calie Cook (Crosslake) spent time on the area lakes checking anglers and boaters throughout the week. Some people found success in panfish and some walleye. Enforcement action was taken for taking fish without a license, taking bass out of season and expired boat registration.

CO Matthew Brodin (Brainerd) assisted the raptor center with locating and transporting an injured eagle to the Garrison Animal Hospital. CO Brodin spend fishing opener on the local lakes. The fish were difficult to catch but the nice weather made up for the slow bite. Enforcement action was taken for angling without angling license, no type IV throwable, no lifejackets and expired registration.

CO Andrew Ladzinski (Pine River) spent time patrolling by watercraft for the Minnesota fishing opener. He saw numerous amounts of boaters and anglers out this weekend. Anglers are reporting that the crappie bite is still going strong. The walleye have been tougher to find with only a few seen in the boat. Violations encountered this week included no angling license in possession, angling without a license, angling with an unattended line, and various watercraft safety equipment violations.
