CO James Fogarty (Prior Lake) checked anglers and boaters during the opening week of the angling season. The first boat CO Fogarty checked Saturday morning had an angler without a license. At the end of the day, Fogarty was going by the same boat and noticed the other angler using two lines. Later the same day, Fogarty observed an angler using two lines. Upon approaching the angler, Fogarty watched as the angler cut the second line. Fogarty waked into the water and grabbed the cut line. Education and enforcement action was taken on angling without a license, using extra lines and watercraft registration violations.

CO Ben Ulrich (Osseo) spent the week working angling and boating enforcement. With fishing opener this weekend along with the nice weather the activity levels were high on the lakes and river. Some violations encountered this week included no license in possession, fishing without a license, extra line violations, over limits, and more.

CO Brent Grewe (Minnetonka) spent the week checking fisherman, boaters and following up with complaints. Grewe checked several fisherman over the opening weekend and found that most anglers were having success with everything but walleyes. Violations this week included no lifejackets, no throwable device and license issues.

CO Mike Lerchen (Bloomington) worked angling and boating activity over the fishing opener. Time was spent training an intern on CO duties. Enforcement action was taken for angling without a license, no PFD, and registration issues.

CO Alexander Birdsall (Waconia) reports a generally uneventful fishing opener in the area. Anglers reported mixed success on local lakes. Very few violations were detected outside of license issues.

CO Kylan Hill (Mound) reports a busy fishing opener week in the Lake Minnetonka area. Anglers had the best success chasing bass and crappie with the occasional small pike being found shallow. Hill detected almost every boating violation possible with the most prevalent being no type IV throwable. A few anglers were found without their license in possession and one person was cited for being in possession of an illegal sized pike. Hill tabled a recruiting booth at the American Indian OIC in Minneapolis for a career fair.

CO Thephong Le (ELCOP) patrolled Metro area lakes and the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers for angling and boating activities. He took enforcement actions for no angling license, angling after suspension, no fishing license, illegal angling methods, failed to display valid watercraft registration, insufficient PFD, no fire extinguisher. He returned calls for service including fishing regulations, TIP and took care of maintenance on issued equipment.
